Do I need a credit card to start?
No. The free plan is genuinely free — no credit card, no trial period, no expiry. Start building your timeline today.
Will my photos be compressed and lose quality?
We resize photos to a maximum of 1,200 pixels on their longest side and compress them to 85% JPEG quality. For viewing on screens — phones, tablets, laptops — this is indistinguishable from the original. You can always keep your originals in your own photo library.
What happens if I exceed my storage limit?
You'll be notified well before you reach your limit. You won't lose any memories — you just won't be able to upload new photos until you upgrade or free up space by deleting old ones.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel any time from your Settings page. Your account reverts to the free plan and all your memories stay safe — we never delete your data when you downgrade.
Will there ever be ads on ToldByUs?
No. ToldByUs is built on subscriptions, not advertising. Your memories and your family's stories are not products — and we'll never treat them like one. Most social media is about today. ToldByUs is about your whole life. Ads don't belong here.
Is my data private?
Yes. Memories are private by default — only you can see them unless you explicitly set them to Shared (visible to connections) or Public (visible via your shareable link). We don't sell data, we don't run ads, and we don't share your information with third parties.
What is a Legacy contact?
A Legacy contact is someone you designate to access your ToldByUs timeline after you're gone. It's a way to ensure your stories are preserved and accessible to the people who matter most — even when you're no longer here to share them yourself.
